MARCH 22, 2011: My new year's resolution was to reopen/get Cancer active. Because, well, it never really opened in the first place. But I feel like our plot is not something to be wasted, and I don't want anyone to steal it. So, let's get this show on the road!

AUGUST 27, 2010: I made another skin. GOSH DARN IT. I'm addicted to making skins. Anyways, it's called 'Numb?' so change it in your profiles to make the site look all spick and span. :]

AUGUST 26, 2010... AGAIN: Fixed a few codes, added a few to make it less jumbled, and started advertising. WE'RE NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN.
~ Hadouken
AUGUST 26, 2010: OKAY. We're even closer to being done now. Made a new skin, and it is set as default. Its name is "Ghosts", just in case your profile isn't set to the default. We will also start advertising soon, which means us lazy staff members have to finish our characters. Break out the emo rock music, guys. It's the homestretch.

AUGUST 21, 2010: We might be done. We actually, might be finally finished. I am so freaking excited. Let's get this show on the road!

Trying to open soon, not that many updates. Yeah, I know. Boring, right?

PUPPET MASTERS?!
Want to be a staff member? Just PM an admin and we will deal with the rest.
PLEASE NOTE: Just because you PM one of the admins does not mean you will automatically become staff. You must apply to a variety of necessary traits, and we will look into your role playing history. As well as that, the head admin, Hadouken, must accept to you becoming staff. Thanks for understanding!

Experiments. The "Damned", as some call them. These people were brought to the island in order to be experimented on, like lab rats. Most were dragged here against their will, others believed the lies about a "unique vacationing experience".
Little did they know that the attractive young man that met them was really sick, with a need for test subjects. AKA: Them. They were the subjects "chosen" to be given the cancerous cells, and eventually, hopefully, the cure.
Before they can be given Beth (the cure), they have to undergo many surgeries to research the possibilities of what might happen if they are given the cure. The cancer that they were infected with was a refined version of Thyroid cancer, one of the weakest cancers.
Because the Thyroid produces hormones for the metabolism, their metabolism sped up very quickly. Hyperthyroidism leads to bone loss, high blood pressure, pressure on the optic nerve causing moderate to severe loss of eyesight, can lead to aneurism, weakened heart muscle leading to heart failure. Osteoporosis, or possible emotional disorders. Sometimes, their mood swings would be so severe that they had to be restrained.
Since the whole point in giving them the Thyroid cancer was so that they could cure it with Beth, the doctors decided against removing parts of the thyroid, or medicines to calm the metabolism; both of which are common cures for Hyperthyroidism. They quickly changed their... subject's diets and exercise to slow it down.
The new regime included strength training, near constant running, and other exercises to improve muscle. The Experiments also had to eat nearly constantly, in an attempt to help them gain weight and stamina in preparation for Beth.
Eventually, they were ready to be given the dug. However, the day that the doctors and scientists panicked, because of the infected, most of the Experiments escaped. From their cages. They were scattered, could be anyone, anywhere. The Experiments had lost all memory of what had happened, due to their brains trying to make them forget the horror. Because of this, they didn't know how to care for their pumped up bodies. With varying stages of declination, they slowly started to show symptoms of Hyperthyroidism mentioned above.
The experiments have never actually been injected with Beth, so they are not, in fact, infected. Therefore, they have no disease to pass on, and doctor's tests show them to be of perfect health, despite them possibly going blind, heart failure, etc.
EXPERIMENT COUNT: 1
Basically, everyone else in the world is 'clean'. They haven't been infected with the refined Thyroid cancer, and those with the natural kind, are also completely normal. None of these people have been through same trauma as the Experiments.
Despite how most of the world doesn't even know of the Experiments, there are those who do, which can be separated into separate categories.
Hunters: The hunters try to kill the Experiments. They stalk the streets, with a sharp eye on any one who might have the tattoo on their collar bone, or the physical symptoms of the Damned, and infected. Mostly, they are people whose lives were destroyed, because a loved one became infected. They transfer that rage into their killing and tracking of living infected and Experiments. Though killing the infected is, in fact, a good thing, there is little need, or point to kill Experiments.
Aides: They pity the Experiments, and try to protect them from the Hunters. However, this isn't easy as it might seem. While the Experiments might be dazed due to loss and slowly regained memories, along with their physical illnesses, the Experiments don't want help. They don't know what's happened to them, and don't know why, so they mistrust everyone and everything.
Unaware: Those who don't know about whats been done. Most of the population.
Aware: Those who do know about the experiments, but aren't hunters, doctors, scientists, or anything. Could be a sibling, or partner of a doctor/scientist, or a friend of an experiment. Many are just aides.
CLEAN COUNT: 2
As an old movie, from the early 2000's once quoted, "Doctors are sadists who like to play God and watch lesser people scream.". While this is generally not true, it was the case for some of the doctors on Hoiltist. They didn't mind throwing their experiments in cages, even as their bodies practically ate themselves in their hunger. Then they prescribed insanely rigorous work outs to attempt to keep on weight in muscle. It would have killed any normal human. It did kill many of the Tests, but they didn't care. They were making progress.
When the first few Experiments had been injected with Beth, they showed signs of improvement, causing them to try it on even more. Of the thousand or so experiments that they had, only one hundred were given Beth.
Why? Weren't the original hundred showing improvement?
The truth is, no. After a few weeks, they started to go downhill fast. They would lose weight even faster than the Experiments, their moods would be so violent that even the sedatives wouldn't calm them. Eventually, they took to biting each other. They found that when this happened, the ones who hadn't been given Beth, but were bitten, started to show symptoms similar to the infected ones.
This frightened the doctors. Why wouldn't it? I mean, it's not like a bunch of ravenous, cannibalistic, psychotic experiments, that they themselves had created, weren't trying to eat them, or anything.
Without thinking, the few doctors that, through out the entire procedures, had been leery of the whole thing, helped the Experiments escaped. They thought they were helping the few non-infected Experiments avoid a dreadful fate. However, a few of the infected got out.
Most of the doctors who helped them escaped were killed, or locked up. Some of them weren't caught on tape or anything, and weren't convicted, and those are the ones who are now on the mainland, most working separately or together to create a counter drug to Beth.
DOCTOR COUNT: 2
The scientists are not all crazy, just like the doctors. Originally led by Terrence Williams, he led
a group of ambitious young doctors and scientists, many fresh out of university to the island to preform the first few experiments.
When young Louis Newton started to suggest the idea of testing on humans, he became wary of the boy, and the few who concurred with him. Eventually, they over powered him, locking him in a cell of the institute to keep him out of the way.
Some of the wary scientists and doctors tried to help him, but it did him, nor them any good if they were caught so they did little to help their original leader. Louis, at this point, started to take over the organization.
With Louis in charge, things started to change. They began having humans brought, in any way, from any country, to the island, most between the ages of ten and twenty (though some were older at the time), to be given refined cancer that had previously been given to rats, and then chimpanzees.
Over time, after the adjustments to accommodate the metabolism rush that Thyroid cancer had given the Experiments, they began injecting them with Beth. Beth, like the rats and chimpanzees, showed signs of improvement in the humans, causing great excitement in the scientists and doctors.
Then, things started to go downhill for them. While the doctors took care of stats and vitals of the Tests, the scientists were in charge with the actual experiments. The drug, for a main example.
When the first few that had been given Beth started to become rabid, they knew something was wrong. When the first few started to bite other "clean" experiments, they knew something was up. When they tried to attack a doctor, and even scientists, they knew that they had been wrong about something.
Like some of the doctors, some scientists helped to smuggle the 'clean' Experiments off the island, where they hoped they would be safe. They hadn't anticipated some of the infected to be mixed in the bunch. The ones that weren't caught by Louis, banded together with the doctors to try to create an anit-Beth. Some, also like the doctors, preferred to go into Hiding, never to be heard from each other again.
Make your characters here. Please post your new character in the "Pending" sub-board. Please note: before you can play your character you must get your character accepted by an admin.
Boats leaving and coming to the island go here. Except, around now, most boats just leave the island. There's also a few stores around the pier, making a little town. Literally, a little town. The roads aren't paved.
The Infected City, as some call it. Cairns, Australia is becoming more and more overrun with those infected with Beth, and those who have been bitten. Watch out - always expect the unexpected.
Like Adelaide, Perth is predominately uninfected, probably due to the fact that, like Adelaide, it is on the opposite side of the continent from Cairns and the Island.
Not extrememly, but relatively close to the Infected City, is is not uncommon to find Damned here, but less likely that there will be Infected roaming around.
Due to it's closeness to Cairns, Brisbane is, in fact, Damned. There are many Infected roaming around, eating each other, and just about anything that moves.
Anywhere besides the above cities. Remember, northeastern cities are infected, or have experiments (the closer to Cairns, the more infected) the southern, western sides are not.
